To use lumber in structural applications, construction
professionals need information on the strength capabilities of various
lumber grades. WWPA's Technical Services Division leads the industry
in creating and distributing this technical information to professional
users worldwide.
Architects, engineers, builders, code officials and
others rely on WWPA data to select the right grade, strength value
and fasteners for building with wood.
The Association's technical activities are carried out
by lumber technical experts stationed at the WWPA headquarters
in Portland, Ore. These experts are available to educate key audiences
on how to properly specify and use Western lumber.
Association Technical Services activities include:

lumber design values, design criteria, loading data and span
tables have been developed through WWPA's wood engineering research.
This important information is published in a number of technical
publications which have become standard reference tools for
those who design and build with wood.

WWPA regularly monitors developments in the building code, design
and engineering fields can affect the future use of Western
lumber in construction. This assures Association-published lumber
