A new organization for lumber industry veterans

The lumber industry has a rich tradition in the West, marked by the many business relationships developed in the course of making and selling Western lumber. In an effort to preserve the Western lumber's storied history and celebrate the business relationships that are integral to the industry, a new organization has been formed for veteran industry participants.

The Lumber Pioneers has been established to maintain the many relationships among individuals who developed and advanced the Western lumber industry.

2007 Annual Meeting
set for Sept. 28

The Lumber Pioneers will hold its third annual meeting Sept. 28, 2007, in Portland, an event which will draw veterans of the lumber industry from throughout the region.

The meeting will feature a reception and dinner at the Monarch Hotel, 12566 SE 93rd Ave. in Clackamas, Ore. The reception will start at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and annual meeting.

Additional details on the meeting, including registration information, will be available later this summer.

The organization also seeks to document the rich history of companies and individuals who have shaped the industry throughout the decades. Since 2005, the Lumber Pioneers have published two monographs, featuring Pope & Talbot's Port Gamble, Washington sawmill and Gilchrist Timber Company.
